Fantasy time for the ‘Fins
[picappgallerysingle id="2949505"]Ok, so now that I’ve done 1 of 3 of my fantasy drafts I figured it would be time to let you all in on the secrets in relation to the Miami Dolphins fantasy players.
First off, DRAFT RONNIE BROWN!
That’s right, I went all caps there. And for good reason.
Ronnie Brown is averaging a 40+ ranking on many fantasy boards. Really, 40+. Can you believe just last year he was a top-20 pick?
Here’s the deal, everyone know Brown has a history of injuries. But what if he stays healthy. NFL gurus and fantasy nuts have forgotten 2008 I guess, remember the runs, throws, touchdowns?
I’m not saying it’s a guarantee, but it is a great value for a team’s No.1 running back. A team that will be focusing on the run nonetheless.
And then you have the top Dolphins player on anybody’s draft board – Brandon Marshall. The newly acquired wide receiver has not just added a whole new aspect to the real ‘Fins, but the fantasy ones as well.
Brown and Ricky Williams won’t have to go up against eight or nine in the box nearly as much this year thanks to Marshall. Marshall will spread the field and make defenses respect him.
Marshall may not be in line for another 100+ catch season, but he will get his share of touchdowns and balls thrown his way. Safe pick, great No.1 option for your fantasy team.
Speaking of Williams, still viable as a back-up plan. I would say hand-cuff Brown with him if you can. But as soon as you take Brown, bet your money Williams will be scooped up quickly afterwards.
Chad Henne, Greg Camarillo and Devon Bess all make for decent bench options in deeper leagues. Wait to see who emerges as Miami’s No.2 receiver before taking either Camarillo or Bess too high.
The Dolphins defense could also be a nice sleeper, thanks mostly to linebacker Karlos Dansby and the emergence of Sean Smith and Vontae Davis. Also, if Cameron “Earthquake” Wake comes on strong, so will the Dolphins’ sack numbers.
So there you go, be a homer, draft Dolphins. I did!
Catching up with Camp in Miami
[picappgallerysingle id="6719159"]Brandon Marshall will transform the Dolphins offense this season. Luckily for him and the other Dolphins receivers, Sean Smith won’t be covering them.
Smith absolutely owned their scrimmage the other day and that translates to fantastic news for the ‘Fins. Remember, we go up against Randy Moss, Braylon Edwards and Lee Evans twice a year.
Marshall has been a stud so far in camp and must be liking the news that Derelle Revis plans on sitting out the entire year – I’ll have more on that story in the next post.
While everyone knows that Coach Sparano likes his running game, remember he was an o-line coach in Dallas, Miami’s new-found passing attack continues to grab headlines.
Which leads us to a note two posts down the road. See, teasers and plenty of them today.
I’ve had plenty of time to gather them while moving half-way across the country!
Continue to keep an eye on the battles on the outside during camp. If Smith and Marshall continue to have it, it can only bode well for both.
Marshall will work to make his plays and continue gaining the respect of his new squad. Smith is entering his second year and Miami could definitely use a corner with a grown sense of confidence after giving his team’s top receiver multiples headaches.
On another note, give it up for newly acquired Charles Grant. Word is he is using his experience to help players like rookie Jared Odrick.
Grant has been a great player for years and having him on the defensive line adds valuable knowledge and leadership to a group that is desperate for it.
Stay tuned for the next posts, wear I come through with the teases!
Dolphins ready to “Feed the Wolf”
[picappgallerysingle id="6674993"]Sorry about the delay. In the process of moving – grueling.
Anyways, “I am starving – Please Feed the Wolf.” is a slogan seen on the Dolphins practice t-shirts.
It’s awesome. A slogan from the mind of head coach Tony Sparano. Beautiful.
It’s things like these that should give Dolphins fans everywhere a reason to rejoice. This team is looking more and more like a REAL contender this season.
Other quick notes from camp:
Rookie linebacker A.J. Edds went down for the season with an ACL tear. While the defensive line keeps getting more and more help – did anyone realize Miami signed Charles Grant – the linebacking corps seem pretty thin. Aside from the projected starters, there’s a lack of talent and depth at a place that should be flourishing in both.
With that though, Karlos Dansby hasn’t wasted much time impressing everyone at training camp. The defense could be stellar this year and it will start and end with Dansby.
The other big-time newbie to Miami, Brandon Marshall has been doing the exact same thing. Although he’s wearing No.19 – something I was disappointed to see – he’s actually catching passes and getting into a good flow with Chad Henne.
Ronnie Brown and Channing Crowder are back on the field as well, which makes Miami look even better. The Dolphins were successful in 2008 due in large part to a healthy squad. While Edds may have been lost, if the vets can stay healthy this team surely will go further in 2010.
